The Landau Syrah
Wine
Murdoch Hill The Landau Syrah is sourced from the estate vineyard at Oakbank in the Adelaide Hills. A vein of ironstone runs through the site, producing exceptional quality Syrah.
The Landau leads Murdoch Hill's Artisan label. Each wine is named after a type of horse drawn carriage: a tribute to winemaker Michael Downer's grandfather who collected them. Landau carriages were a popular choice for royalty.
Minimal winemaking influence ensures the characters of the vineyard come through in the final wine. The grapes are small batch open fermented. Varying levels of whole bunch and whole berry inclusion add a fine texture and spicy aromas.
Oak maturation is kept to a minimum: seasoned French oak for 9-10 months. This further allows expression of the site to be the focus.
Deep red, Murdoch Hill The Landau Syrah is medium bodied with red fruit flavours. Whole bunch influence lends spice, complexity and structure. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
